Lean on Me

My parents were commissioned as Salvation Army Officers when I was nine years old. I grew up knowing who God was and even asked Him into my heart when I was very young. As we moved it was always hard at first, but I grew to love my new home. I had full faith in God until my father’s car accident; it was then where I went into a period of time where I truly began to question my faith in God. How could he let this happen to a man who had given his life Him?

It was hard to see my father in a hospital bed, learning how to walk again. I prayed to God, pleading with Him to tell me why this happened. In church a month later, I saw my father in his wheelchair, preaching that God will provide for those who love him. I felt the Lord say that I would never know why that happened, but a sense of peace in knowing that God is still protecting and providing for my family. I was reminded that the accident could have been much worse. It was then that I rededicated my life to Christ, promising to follow Him and trust in him to keep me safe in His arms.

After I rededicated my life to God, he has blessed me far more than I have deserved. The moves after were not always easy, but in each move I could see the Lord’s guidance and blessings in my life. He has continued to provide safety and guidance in my life. It is not always the way that I would have chosen, but it is His way and I take comfort in that fact. It reminds me of the verse Psalm 9:10 “Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.” (NIV)
